Our director, Jean DeWitt, has a BA in Secondary Choral Education from Pacific Lutheran University, with an instrumental teaching endorsement. While at PLU, she was a member of Choir of the West, University Orchestra, and a scholarship recipient of Mu Phi Epsilon. Mrs. DeWitt taught music in public and private schools for 18+ years before getting married and enjoying being a mom. As time allowed, she was an interim choir director at several churches, including Laurelhurst Presbyterian, Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in SeaTac, and Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in Maple Valley. A singer at Prince of Peace Lutheran commented about her interim directorship by saying, “We have a good one”.
Mrs. DeWitt has been involved in many choirs and orchestras over the years, including Beaverton Chamber Symphony, where she was concertmistress and featured vocal soloist, Lutheran Choral Association of Portland, Novum Cantorum, Rainier Symphony, Rainier Chorale, Cascade Symphony, and (briefly) Everett Chorale. Last summer, she founded the Lutheran Choral Association of Snohomish County, a summer choir. Currently she is the interim conductor of the Music Hall Community Orchestra.
